You've probably got a few questions about car insurance for teens. Your rep can help you find the right protection for your teen driver and help you save along the way.
Since teens have less experience on the road and historical evidence shows they have higher accident rates, it’s riskier to insure them. That’s why you’ll see an increase in your bill when you add your teen to your insurance. We offer discounts that can help you offset some of that cost.
Higher accident rates for teens lead to higher insurance costs.
Our teen driver discount offers peace of mind and savings for your family. Newly licensed drivers may qualify for a discount by completing our Simply Drive course.
Full-time students with at least a B grade point average or college graduates could save.
You could save if your teen successfully completes a state-approved driver’s education and/or a motor vehicle defensive driving course. This discount isn’t available in all states, so check with your rep to make sure it’s offered in your area.

Pro tip: Don’t skimp on liability coverage when you have an inexperienced driver. Young drivers are more likely to have accidents. Lowering your liability limits could leave you paying thousands of dollars in expenses if your child is at fault for hitting another car or injuring someone.
Discounts aren’t the only way to save on your teen’s car insurance.
Here are some other tips to help lower your bill.
The cost of a car helps determine the cost of your insurance, so get your teen an older, less expensive car. Older cars that are paid in full give you the option to drop collision and comprehensive insurance and carry only liability protection. While this would not cover the cost to repair or replace that older car, it can help reduce your rate. It’s important that you speak with your rep before you drop any coverage to ensure you have the protection you need.
Avoid insurance claims for minor damage such as bent fenders and encourage your teen to follow driving rules to avoid traffic tickets. Both insurance claims and traffic tickets will increase your rates. On the flip side, if your teen’s record stays perfect, your rates may come down over time.
Pro tip: It’s never too early to teach your teen safe-driving habits.
Make the most of our multi-policy discount by adding your home insurance.
Lower your premiums by raising your comprehensive and collision deductibles to at least $1,000. Just remember, this means you take on more risk and you’ll pay more out of pocket if you file a claim.
Keeping you safe on the road is important to us
We’ve partnered with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) for over 40 years to support their mission to “reduce deaths, injuries, and property damage due to motor vehicle crashes.”
Your teen needs to be at least 19 years old to get their own policy. If they’re under 19, they can only get their own auto policy with us if their parents insure their cars with COUNTRY.
Ask your rep! They can provide you with a quote for either scenario. That way, you can compare the quotes and make the choice that works best for you and your family.
Encourage your teen not to hand over their keys to a friend. If they do and an accident happens, the liability may fall under your policy, depending on the circumstances of the claim.
